They are sometimes free, often have Data Recovery in their name and promise to recover deleted data from your hard drive.
But how do data recovery software restore information that is no longer visible on your PC or mobile phone? By digging into the operating system to reconstruct the path to unindexed files when they have not yet been overwritten by new data.
Deleting a file under macOS, Windows, Linux or even iOS OR Android does not in fact mean that the information has disappeared definitively from the hard disk: it remains in the memory of the hard disk or Flash memory as long as it has not been replaced by new resources. The data recovery software will thus scan the storage medium and reconstruct a file by analyzing the deindexed elements to locate the recoverable data.
The ability of software to recover erased data will therefore depend on the effectiveness of its algorithms in identifying and regrouping these isolated physical data fragments. Secondly, it will offer the user to re index the files to restore them visibly in the operating system.
When to use data recovery software :
Using data recovery software to regain lost files is only effective when the cause of Twitter data loss is logical (software) and not physical (hardware). This therefore excludes hard drives that have suffered a shock or show signs of failure (suspicious noise, loss of access, etc.). This would have the effect of permanently damaging the dysfunctional media.
Also, be careful not to download and install data recovery software directly onto the hard drive in question. Indeed, this could lead to the overwriting of lost data and therefore the impossibility of restoring them later…
When using it, it is also recommended to save the restored files on another storage medium.
